Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia
In 1881 Emperor Menelik II, made his permanent settlement/camp at Entoto. After a certain period of time because of the difficulties which they faced while climbing up from the south, the lack of wood, the problem to fetch up water, and for the number of thunder storms, Entoto proved unsuitable
Emperor Menelik set up his permanent capital at the foot of the hill in the year 1886, mainly attracted by the hot springs of Filwoha.
After seeing a new flower near by the hot springs , king Menelik and his wife Empress Taitu gave the name Addis Ababa .
The number of population of Addis Ababa is about 4 million, which is presently estimated. It has an area of 250 square kilometer. The average temperature of Addis Ababa is 15 degree centigrade .
It lies at a height of 2,200-2,500m which reaches 3,200 meters to the north of the city in the Entoto mountain range.
The people of Addis Ababa are intermingling from all ethnic groups in the country. They speak different languages of their own but can understand one another with Amharic which is official language of the country. English is widely spoken.
In Addis Ababa , there are monuments of special jubilation where manifestations of Ethiopian cultures can be seen.
The Meskel Ceremony (the finding of the true cross), by which a large bone fire is lit in Meskel square on the 27th of September each year.
Ethiopian Epiphany, which is celebrated on the 19th of January every year, by Ethiopian Ortodox Church is dramatic and colorful processions for the memory of baptism in Jordan River .
In Addis Ababa there are a number of different sites like museums, churches, and markets etc which are worth enough to be visited.
